Soprano
Mechelle Tippets is an accomplished singer
ranging
from opera to cabaret. She has been hailed as a “bright-voice soprano”
with a
“powerful voice”. Operatic credits include Chrysothemis (Elektra), Echo (Ariadne Auf Naxos), Gertrude
Stein (Mother
of Us All), Ellen
Orford (cover) (Peter
Grimes), Aunt Julia (Claudia Legare, New York
premier), Second Lady (Magic Flute),
Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Miss Havisham (Miss
Havisham’s Wedding Night), the
Mother (Hansel and Gretel), and the Witch (Dido and
Aeneas).
Ms.
Tippets is also a concert soloist having performed Handel’s Messiah
(Brooklyn
Symphony Orchestra), Barber’s Andromache’s Farewell (Longy Chamber
Orchestra),
Haydn’s Creation Mass (Concord Chorus and Symphony), and Pergolesi’s
Stabat
Mater.
She was a member of the Resident Artist program at Dicapo Opera
Theatre
for the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. She
is a recipient of the Encouragement Award from Metropolitan Opera
National
Council Auditions, Aria/Concerto Competition Winner from Longy School
of Music,
Michael Mitchell Memorial Award for the Performing Arts, and first
place winner
Seattle Civic Opera Competition.
Ms. Tippets holds a bachelors
degree in vocal music from Brigham
Young University,
and a master’s degree in Opera Performance from Longy School of Music
in Cambridge, MA. She resides in the New York City
metropolitan area, and is a Colorado native. |
